The 9th annual Baraga County Lake Trout Festival will take place Saturday, June 7, 2014, which coincides with Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend. No fishing license is necessary on that weekend. (in case of inclement weather, the Festival will be held Sunday June 8)
Baraga County has been named the Lake Trout Capital of the Great Lakes and the free (no admission charge) festival will combine the Keweenaw Classic Fishing Tournament with family-oriented events such as kids' carnival, "Little Miss Superior" contest, Kids' Fishing Pond, Pie-Eating contest, Beach Volleyball tournament, Pequaming Run and 1/2 marathon, Junk Art contest, Cribbage tournament, Tour de L'Anse Bike Race sponsored by the Fitness Center of Baraga County Memorial Hospital, and the firemen's street dance on Saturday night.
Food for the entire family will include a pancake breakfast, food and drink booths, coffee and baked goods, watching the "Ducky River Race", shopping at the art and crafts fair, while listening to music by area talent will ensure fun for all, regardless of age.
The fishing tournament will have separate classes for lake trout and salmon with many cash and merchandise awards as well as door prizes. Last year's first place winners in each category took home almost $1,200. There are discounts available for early registration. All events will take place at the Waterfront Park and marina in downtown L'Anse.
L'Anse is located on beautiful Keweenaw Bay of Lake Superior on US Hwy 41 in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
(The UP has been named one of the Top 50 Vacation Destinations by Disney Travel)
